Sauna Heaters and Infrared Saunas With Wi-Fi Control: Which Models Connect to Your Phone

More sauna owners want to start the heat from the couch, the gym parking lot or the drive home. Some saunas and heaters do that out of the box, some need a Wi-Fi control added, and some can’t do it at all. This guide lists the models we sell that connect to a phone app, what each app is called, and what you need to add so it works.

The short answer

  • Infrared cabins with Wi-Fi built in: every Finnmark cabin we sell, FD-1 through FD-7, ships with Finnmark’s Wi-Fi touchscreen control. You run it from the Smart Life app.
  • Infrared panel kits: Finnmark Spectrum kits don’t include a control. Add the Finnmark V2LCDC-W if you want app control. The standard V2LCDC has no Wi-Fi.
  • Electric heaters: Wi-Fi comes from the control, not the heater. HUUM heaters use the UKU WiFi control (HUUM app). Harvia E-model and KIP-W heaters use a Xenio WiFi or Fenix WiFi control (MyHarvia app). Saunum Air and Air L heaters run only with the AirIQ WiFi control (Saunum app). EOS heaters can use the Touch 3 control with the EOS Touch 3 App Module.

Infrared saunas with built-in Wi-Fi: Finnmark

Finnmark’s cabins use the V2 touchscreen control in its Wi-Fi version. Finnmark’s parts lists for the FD-1 to FD-5 name it as the “V2 Control – With WiFi,” and the FD-6 and FD-7 spec sheets list an “LCD Wifi enabled control panel.” Finnmark’s Wi-Fi manual walks through the Smart Life app. From the app you can turn the heaters on, set the target temperature and session time, change the lighting color, switch between °F and °C, and schedule sessions on repeat days.

Model Type People Use Power
Finnmark FD-1 Full-spectrum infrared cabin 1 Indoor 120V / 15A plug-in
Finnmark FD-2 Full-spectrum infrared cabin 2 Indoor 120V / 15A plug-in
Finnmark FD-3 Full-spectrum infrared cabin 3–4 Indoor 240V / 15A
Finnmark FD-4 Trinity Infrared + Harvia Vega Compact traditional heater 2 Indoor IR side 120V / 15A
Finnmark FD-5 Trinity XL Infrared + Harvia KIP45B traditional heater 4 Indoor 240V
Finnmark FD-6 Cedar combination barrel, infrared included 4 Outdoor IR side 120V / 15A
Finnmark FD-7 Thermo-aspen combination barrel, infrared included 4 Outdoor IR side 120V / 15A

On the FD-4 and FD-5 the app runs the infrared side. The Harvia traditional heaters in those cabins have their own controls on the heater. The FD-6 and FD-7 take an optional 4.5 kW rock heater that’s sold separately.

Building your own infrared room

Finnmark Spectrum Plus, Spectrum Carbon and mixed panel kits are heater sets for a room you frame. They need a Finnmark V2 control, sold separately. Pick the V2LCDC-W for Wi-Fi and the Smart Life app. The V2LCDC is the same touchscreen without Wi-Fi. One control per kit.

HUUM heaters with the UKU WiFi control

HUUM electric heaters have no dials, so every one needs a UKU control. Choose UKU WiFi for app control. According to HUUM’s UKU manual, the HUUM app lets you set the temperature and heating time, turn the sauna on and off, get a notification when the room is ready, and book heating times up to two months ahead.

UKU WiFi connects on 2.4 GHz only (HUUM US manual). HUUM also asks you to check the room and confirm on the control panel that it’s safe before a remote start.

Harvia heaters with Xenio WiFi or Fenix WiFi

Harvia E-models and KIP-W heaters use a separate wall control. Choose a Wi-Fi version for app control. Xenio WiFi works with the MyHarvia app. Harvia’s Xenio WiFi instructions list turning the heater on and off, setting and watching the temperature, switching lights and ventilation, and setting a scheduled start. Fenix WiFi is Harvia’s 4.3-inch glass touchscreen line and uses the MyHarvia 2 app. Pick Xenio or Fenix for a heater, not both.

Heaters on our shop Xenio WiFi Fenix WiFi
6 kW E-models: Cilindro PC60E, Spirit SP60E, Virta HL60E; plus Club K10G Xenio CX30 WiFi Fenix FX30 WiFi
8 kW and up: Cilindro PC80E, PC90E, PC110E, Spirit SP80E, Virta HL80E, HL90E, HL110E, Club K12.5G, K15G Xenio CX45 WiFi Fenix FX45 WiFi
Virta Pro HL160E (16 kW) Xenio CX45 WiFi Not on this heater (over the FX45 limit)
KIP-W wall heaters: KIP45W, KIP60W, KIP80W (240V 1-phase) Xenio CX170 WiFi —
Virta Combi with steamer: HL80SA, HL90SA, HL110SA (240V 1-phase) Xenio CX30C WiFi Fenix FX30C WiFi

The Spirit SP60E, SP80E and SP90E packages let you choose Xenio Wi-Fi or Fenix Wi-Fi in the options, so you don’t need a separate control. KIP-B heaters have dials on the heater and don’t take a Wi-Fi control. Harvia says remote start needs a safety device or door switch, so ask us what your room needs.

Saunum Air and Air L with AirIQ WiFi

Saunum designed the Air and Air L heaters to run only with the AirIQ WiFi control, so every one of them can be app-controlled. Saunum’s AirIQ manual lists remote control through the Saunum app, choosing a time for the sauna to be ready, a phone alert when it’s ready, three presets, and fan speed for the built-in climate equalizer. AirIQ connects on 2.4 GHz.

The AirIQ is sold separately from the heater. Xenio and UKU won’t run a Saunum Air.

EOS heaters with the Touch 3 and App Module

Our EOS heaters (Mythos S35, Mythos S45, Cubo Avantgarde, Gracil, Gracil W and Invisio Midi) run on an EOS control, either the EmoTec D or the Touch 3. For phone control, EOS’s Touch 3 instructions list an app module accessory, which we sell as the EOS Touch 3 App Module. It goes with the Touch 3 panel, which also needs the EOS power distribution kit. EOS setups have several parts, so email us before you order and we’ll confirm the parts list.

What to plan before you buy

  • Wi-Fi where the control sits. HUUM UKU WiFi and Saunum AirIQ need 2.4 GHz. Walls, recessed panels and an outdoor barrel at the back of the yard can weaken the signal, so test your signal there first.
  • Remote start safety. HUUM, Harvia and Saunum each check that the room is safe before a remote start, using a panel confirmation, a door switch or a safety circuit. Always check that nothing is on or near the heater.
  • An electrician. Electric heaters and their controls are hardwired by a licensed electrician from the nameplate and manual. The Finnmark FD-1 and FD-2 plug into a standard 120V outlet. The FD-3 needs a 240V outlet.
  • One control per heater. Packages that already include a Wi-Fi control don’t need a second one.

How to choose

  • Want infrared that’s ready to go? Any Finnmark FD cabin. Wi-Fi is built in.
  • Building an infrared room? A Finnmark Spectrum kit plus the V2LCDC-W.
  • Want a traditional heater with water on the stones? HUUM with UKU WiFi, Harvia with Xenio or Fenix WiFi, Saunum Air with AirIQ, or EOS with the Touch 3 and App Module.
  • Already have a Harvia KIP-B? The dials are on the heater, so it doesn’t connect to an app. Look at a KIP-W with the Xenio CX170 WiFi instead.
